“Thank you! Have a good night!” Zaida waved to the young girl and her father who’d purchased her TV as they carried it into the elevator, pushing the front door of her apartment closed with a bit of shove to get the dodgy latch in. She hardly used the television anyway; between work, A&A, and living, there wasn’t much time left to properly relax in front of a screen. The coins would be much better used on sturdy boxes for packing, or maybe…
On the kitchen counter, beside the pouch of gold and iron coins that she’d just received for the TV, laid her tablet on charge. It wasn’t a fancy GUILD branded one, and it was very outdated, but it did everything button needed it to. If Zaida was going to move to the Valley, button was going to need a way to communicate with those outside the border (if Flourish doesn’t block that sort of thing?). Now that she thought about it more, it was a blessing in disguise that when she started university all those years ago she opted for the cheaper option. Once the collapse comes, will all GUILD technology stop working? The servers for messaging and calls, will they go down? The default servers that buttons tablet connect to are nowhere near as fast or reliable, but will they outlive the GUILDs?
Only time will tell, she supposed, but it would be nice if she didn’t have to rely on the Estrea Postal Service for ALL communication to her friends and family in the future.
Pondering more… Maybe the money from the TV could go towards a tablet for Dill. They would be able to call and hear each other’s voices again even before Zaida gets the chance to move. Who’s the say the GUILD Mail will last all that long anyway? She could receive pictures, videos, and messages from Esme, Lyss, and Marigold…
Yes. Tomorrow, she’ll go purchase one to send with her next letter.
